Be Resilient

Be Resilient!

Artist Series-Be Resilient! was not a typical session provided by Perfectly Imperfect Studios. LaTwanna Williams, owner of Perfectly Imperfect Studios, has seen firsthand the negative effects youth are experiencing by always comparing themselves to social media.

Be Resilient! was designed to pour back into our area youth and help them see how beautiful they truly are. On Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 Perfectly Imperfect Studios hosted Be Resilient!, a youth portrait event focused on creating empowering portraits for girls who are active on social media.

The purpose of using imagery for this project was to provide a visual to girls of themselves to boost their confidence and to show them how dynamic they are! We talked about social media and how to stay safe online.

We took it one step deeper and discussed our visions & values and the importance of how we show up in the world. Each participant selected a few values words, words that represented rules and common understandings. These words became our community norms, the rules that we followed while we were in the creative space together. Next, we talked about being ourselves and what it means to be authentic, these words became our community values. After the self-awareness and self-acceptance activities, each participant selected a power word. Power words are the word that they chose to describe themselves.

During the photoshoot, each participant got a chance to explain in their own words what their selected power word means to them. After the session they got to select the image that they felt best visually described their power word. They then decorated the mat that encloses their image, which had to include their power word. Each participant received a 11x14 framed image to remind them of all to be true to who they are!

I want to thank all of the sponsors for this event, you are truly appreciated! Scholarships were provided in part by the Minnesota NOW Foundation.
